Welcome

I’ve always loved historical novels, so after reading thousands of them over the years, studying history and writing maritime history books about submarines and shipwrecks, I decided to try my hand at writing some historical fiction. Where Wild Black Swans are Flying and the children’s novel Cast Away are set in the early days of white settlement in Western Australia, which is also the geographic setting for my upcoming story of obsession and murder during the 1890s gold rush. It will be followed (I hope), by a Regency romance with a difference. I also write poetry and short stories, and am working on illustrating my children’s picture books. In my spare time, (what spare time?) I paint and have been known to play the bagpipes.

A tale of Western Australia’s Swan River Colony. Becky Lees owes her life to the Indigenous people who rescue her. Surviving a childhood of loss and hardship, Becky finally finds a lasting love. But life is no fairy tale, and fate has much more trauma in store for her before she can finally find happiness.

For younger readers

Katie is alone. Alone and lost on a lonely shore where few white people have ever walked. Can Katie survive? Can she trust the strangers she does meet? Can she escape the evil men who think she knows where treasure is buried. For ages 10 to 14, but older people might also enjoy it.

My Maritime History books

The true story of the World War II submarine base at Fremantle, Western Australia

Earlier Maritime History books

Sadly, both these books are out of print, but may be still available online. Fremantle’s Secret Fleets is the earlier edition of Secret Fleets.
